DORAL, Fla. - The leading candidate to become city manager has backed out of the job.
The announcement was made by Mayor Luigi Boria at a special meeting Thursday.
"It was decided by this council to meet with the former director of planning and zoning, and I did that," said Boria.
Vice-Mayor Christi Fraga recommended Nathan Kogon earlier this week. According to Boria, Kogon accepted the job Tuesday, but he called the mayor the following day to say he was no longer interested in the position.
"Unfortunately, it didn't work out, but I'm still a big believer of hiring from within the city," said Fraga.
Boria said Kogon was concerned about getting involved in the political drama left behind by Joe Carollo's firing Monday.
