Firefighters continue to monitor a brush fire near U.S. Highway 27 and Krome Avenue.

Officials said the fire, which began Friday, was likely sparked because of a lightning strike.

Western Pembroke Pines was draped in smoke and ashes fell on cars due to the brush fire off Interstate 75 at the Broward and Miami-Dade county line, near Mack's Fish Camp.

Authorities said Saturday morning there were actually two separate fires at 500 acres each.

As of 5:30 p.m. Sunday, about 13,000 total acres had burned.

Forestry said it will monitor the fire into Sunday morning. The fire is said to not be burning as strong as it was Friday evening

There is still no word on a percentage of containment.
