Little Havana teen shot in thigh while walking with friend

16-year-old recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital

MIAMI – A Little Havana teenager is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital after being shot in the right thigh early Saturday morning, police said.

The 16-year-old was walking near the intersection of Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Fifth Street when a man dressed in black started to shoot, according to the victim's friend, who was with him during the incident.

He said about a dozen shots were fired before the gunman got into a black car, possibly a BMW, and sped off.

"I thought this neighborhood was good, but when I moved over here every day was an accident or people shooting," the victim's friend told Local 10 News.

The victim's father called Miami police about 1:15 a.m.

"He was limping right here in the middle of the street," another friend said.

The victim, who is a student at Booker T. Washington Senior High School, remained at the hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Miami Police Department at 305-627-7100.
