'Live Like Bella Way' unveiled

Southwest 107th Avenue named after Bella Rodriguez-Torres

MIAMI ā€“ A sixteen-block stretch of Southwest 107th Avenue was renamed "Live Like Bella Way" on Monday in honor of a 10-year-old girl who died after battling a rare cancer for six years.

Bella Rodriguez-Torres died in May 2013. Earlier this month, Miami-Dade commissioners passed a resolution designating Southwest 107th Avenue from 120th to 136th Street as "Live Like Bella Way."

"It will always serve as a happy reminder of a little girl whose simple act of living her life brought so much joy and perspective to the lives of those around us," said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

"She will be well pleased with the progress and the work that we've done in her memory and in her name," added her father, Raymond Rodriguez-Torres.

Tracy Mourning, the wife of former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning, donated game-worn shoes to the Live Like Bella Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting childhood cancer.

"That little girl is an angel that's watching over this," she said.

Rodriguez-Torres suffered from Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, which attacks muscle tissue. The Miami Heat and Miami Police Department paid tribute to her following her death.
