Domestic violence suspect dies during police-involved shooting in Broward

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies investigate Dania Beach shooting

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – An armed domestic violence suspect died on Friday night during a police-involved shooting, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were searching for the gunman after his girlfriend called 911 asking for help in the area of Southwest 32nd Terrace near the Oakridge neighborhood.

Dispatchers later received reports of shots fired at 2501 Stirling Rd. Deputies found the domestic violence suspect there and reported he refused to put down his weapon. Deputies shot him, police said.

Anthony Gomes lives in the area and said he heard about four gunshots.

“I just saw somebody laying in the middle of the street,” Gomes said, adding he also saw Fire Rescue personnel take him on a stretcher.

A BSO mobile command unit was set up on Stirling Road. Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators were also at the scene.
