7 displaced, 2 dogs die after fire erupts at Miami triplex

MIAMI – Seven people were displaced from their homes Monday after a fire erupted at a single-story triplex in the city of Miami, first responders confirmed.

The fire was reported at 11:04 a.m. in the area of Northwest Fifth Avenue and 59th Street.

According to City of Miami Fire Rescue officials, firefighters arrived at the scene to find smoke and flames coming from the building. They were told there were multiple animals trapped inside.

“Immediately, firefighters extended hose lines into the structure to perform a quick-fire attack locating the seat of the fire,” Lt. Pete Sanchez said in an email to Local 10. “Simultaneously, a search was conducted in which 5 dogs and 2 cats were removed. 2 of those dogs were provided with lifesaving efforts but unfortunately succumbed to smoke inhalation.”
