MIAMI - About 600 Christmas trees were given away in Liberty City Saturday thanks to a 'Secret Santa.'
Jorge Alvart couldn't sell his hundreds of Christmas trees because of construction surrounding his shop on Southwest 20th Street and 57th Avenue.
That's when Mike Fernandez stepped in. Fernandez, chairman of Simply Healthcare Plans, decided to buy every single one of Alvart's trees.
"When I opened the door the next day, the first client was him. He said, 'All of your trees are mine. I'm going to buy them,'" Alvart said. "If it wasn't for Miguel Fernandez, I couldn't get ahead."
Miami city commissioners Michelle Spence-Jones and Francis Suarez along with other volunteers played Santa's elves at the event Saturday.
