FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Surveillance cameras captured a cell phone robbery outside an auto repair shop in Fort Lauderdale.
It happened in the parking lot of Laz One Auto Repair at 3705 Davie Boulevard on Nov. 23.
Video showed Robert Miller using his wife's Samsung Galaxy S II cell phone when the robber snuck up behind him and snatched it out of his hand.
"I felt like somebody just pushed me because it knocked my glasses off and next thing you know, he's running across the street," said Miller.
The robber then ran off. Miller chased him for a few blocks but lost him.
Miller's wife was inside the repair shop paying the bill when the robbery happened. She was worried about the robber finding data on the device.
"Now, I'm really upset because it had a lot of information in there that's kind of personal and who knows who's looking at it right now," said Saile Miller.
The couple was unable to find the phone using GPS and spent $700 replacing it. Investigators said the cell phone will likely be sold online or at a flea market.
"I'm just kind of saddened because I live right in the area and just the fact that I can't walk now down the street without having to watch my back because someone is going to try to steal something from me, it's kind of sad," said Robert Miller.
The robber is described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds. He had a short cropped haircut and was last seen wearing a brown t-shirt and cargo shorts.
Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Lauderdale PD at 954-828-6093 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
