MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach city and leaders and community members got a look at the soon-to-be completed Miami Beach Jewish Community Center Sunday, during a "topping out" ceremony.
The new facility, located at 4221 Pine Tree Dr., is set to be completed in September and will be the first Jewish community center ever on Miami Beach. It will be known as the Galbut Family Miami Beach JCC.
Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower, city commissioners and Greater Miami Jewish Federation Chair Barbara Black Goldfarb donned hard hats to get a look at the progress being made on the building.
"Miami Beach is the largest Jewish population center in the United States that currently lacks its own full-service Jewish community center," President and Campaign Chair of the Miami Beach JCC Jerry Sokol said.
The $12 million center will include a 6,500 square foot gym, 4,200 square foot swimming pool, and rooms for Pilates, aerobics and spinning. It will also host concerts, art exhibits, cultural and holiday celebrations.
