Coast Guard, Navy team on half-ton coke bust

Drugs are worth about $13 million

WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA - The U.S. military is celebrating a massive drug bust on the high seas.

According to the military, a Coast Guard crew deployed aboard the Navy frigate, USS Elrod, interdicted a suspected smuggling vessel in the Western Caribbean Sea on June 10.

The military said they recovered more than 1,000 pounds of cocaine from the boat.

The drugs are is worth about $13 million on the streets.

Four suspected smugglers were detained.

"The Coast Guard and Navy partnership ensures a highly capable presence in the operational theater for sustained periods."  said Cmdr. Robert Landolfi.
