"That's my first cousin that's going to play in the Super Bowl. It's been terrific," said Shakur Cooper, Gore's cousin, who attends Coral Gables Senior High School.

Gore grew up in Coconut Grove. He set the Miami-Dade County high school rushing record and then played at UM.

"I'm going to be real nervous," said Jason Frierson, Gore's cousin.

Frierson lived every moment with his cousin, including Gore's two knee injuries, shoulder injuries, and the death of his mother.

"I know what he went through to make it to this point. Well, it's like, it's time for him to get him a Super Bowl ring," he said.

"To see the kids excited about it, to see the whole school excited about it, we feel like we're going to the Super Bowl," said former teammate Roger Pollard.

Gore is the sixth Coral Gables Senior High School graduate to play in the Super Bowl.
