FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is reevaluating its security plan for the Lauderdale Air Show 2013 following the bombings at the Boston Marathon.
"They should just know they can come in, enjoy the show," said Fort Lauderdale Police Det. Deanna Greenlaw.
Greenlaw said the department was working overtime to make sure the event went off without a hitch. Several other law enforcement agencies would be involved.
"It's not fair to say changing our approach but we're maybe reallocating things in different areas," she said. "We're trying to utilize, like I said, the information we're receiving from the federal government."
On Tuesday, State Road A1A was closed from Sunrise Boulevard to Northeast 19th Street.
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels' won't be making an appearance because of automatic spending cuts imposed by the federal government, making attendance at the event harder to predict.
"Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of the military personnel that's going to be there, but we do have other acts that will be there, so we're hoping that everything still comes out for a great day on the beach," addded Greenlaw.
The air show organizers also announced they will donate $10 from each ticket sold from Tuesday until the show to victims of the bombings.
"This is our big week for ticket sales leading up to the show and it affords us the opportunity to really help those affected by this horrific event." said Bryan Lilley, President of the Lauderdale Air Show. "We felt it was the right thing to do."
Organizers of the Lauderdale Air Show will wait until the show is done to determine the best charity which will directly benefit the victims.
