US State Attorney: Alci Bonannee filed 2K fraudulent tax returns seeking $11M in refunds

MIAMI ā€“ A Fort Lauderdale woman is convicted of filing 2,000 fraudulent tax returns as she sought $11 million in refunds, according to the U.S. State Attorney's Office.

Alci Bonannee, 36, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to defraud the government, nine counts of filing false claims, nine counts of aggravated identity theft, and fourteen counts of wire fraud on Monday.

According to testimony, Bonannee and at least two others filed 2,000 fraudulent tax returns from Dec. 2010 to June 2012. They then withdrew the returns as cash.

Bonannee is scheduled to be sentenced on April 26. She faces up to 351 years in prison.

Chante Mozley, a co-conspirator, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to file fraudulent claims on January 9.Ā Mozley faces a possible maximum prison sentence of 10 years.Ā  Sentencing is scheduled for March 28.

Sonyini Clay, another co-conspirator, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to file fraudulent claims and aggravated identity theft on January 14. Clay faces a possible maximum prison sentence of 12 years.Ā Sentencing is scheduled for April 26.
