MIAMI - The Dexter Pittman development project is over as far as the Miami Heat are concerned.
Just hours before the NBA's trade deadline, the Heat sent Pittman and a 2013 second-round draft pick to Memphis in exchange for the rights to forward Ricky Sanchez.
The move gives Miami a roster spot to use as Sanchez will unlikely ever play in the league and is playing in the minor leagues of Argentina.
The Heat will now be looking for free agents or players that will be available via contract buyouts.
After being selected by Miami in the second round of the 2010 draft, Pittman averaged under 8 minutes a game in his 2-plus seasons. Pittman spent much of this season in the D-League, the NBA's development league.
