Miami Gun Show draws record crowds

Event continues Sunday at Miami-Dade Fair and Expo

MIAMI – Hundreds of people showed up Saturday to the Southern Classic Gun & Knife Show at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo.

Many who attended the event on Saturday told Local 10 they disagreed with President Obama's position on gun regulation.

"It wasn't a gun that killed those kids [in Newtown], it was an insane individual," said Randall Sparks. "If you look at this line right here, there are hundreds of people in this line who are law-abiding citizens and they don't go around killing people. I have guns at home and I've watched them, day and night and day and night, and they never did anything bad."

Sparks said he was at the event to look around, and didn't plan on buying anything.

Victor Bean, a promoter for the gun show, said recent events in national news caused the turnout to swell.

"We've had record turnout this year. This happened when President Clinton was in," Bean said. "There has been a backlash after the Connecticut shooting, and now people are trying to buy what they might ban."

The event will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. General admission is $10, but free for uniformed law enforcement officers.

The gun show will return to South Florida again in the last week of April.
