MIAMI - The family of a 16-year-old boy shot to death while riding his bicycle to a friend's home is asking for help finding the shooter.
Bryan Herrera was shot at the corner of NW 39th Street and 11th Avenue on Saturday.
"We're just heartbroken. We (are) just looking for answers," said William Herrera, the teenager's father
"I think I was the last one to see him in the house. He came into my room, he said he was heading out, and then later we find out he was going to his friend's house. He had his backpack on him," said Katherine Herrera, the teenager's sister.
Investigators believe the shooting may be a case of mistaken identity.
"He was in fact mistaken by officers on the scene who found him as a much older individual," said Miami Police Det. Eldys Diaz.
"I don't want this to ever happen to anybody. You see this on the news all the time. You would never expect to be on the news. It's a bad dream and you just want to wake up," said Alejandro Martinez-Campos, Herrera's brother.
