Here is how to help stop cycle of domestic violence

Miami law enforcement community partners with nonprofit, Verizon's HopeLine

MIAMI – If you have cell phones, batteries or chargers that you are not using, you have the power to help a local nonprofit to continue their work against domestic violence.

Jodi Atkison is the executive director of Do The Right Thing, a nonprofit founded in 1990. She said this is the second year, the Verizon HopeLine program donates $10,000 to their education initiatives.

They collaborate with the Miami Police Department and Miami-Dade County Public Schools to stop the cycle of domestic violence. Atkison said during a visit at Miami Senior High School in Little Havana, there was evidence that the need is dire.

"When our lieutenant asked, 'how many of you have known someone who has been a victim of dating violence,' many of them raised their hands," Atkison said. 

HopeLine collections boxes will be in Miami until Monday:

  • -Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, 1350 NW 12th Ave
  • -Subway, 6265 NW 7 Avenue
