Learning center gets new a/c units

AC units stolen from Sheyes Learning Center in Miami

MIAMI – Two Local 10 viewers donated new air conditioning units to the Sheyes Learning Center in Miami, which had its units stolen for the third time in nine months over the weekend.

Doug Goff with First Class Air-Conditioning and Dunaikis Roche with Nike Air-Conditioning donated their time, labor, and parts to Sheyes Learning Center.

"I really do appreciate you all so much," said Juanita Walker, the owner of the learning center. "It really lets us know that there are good people in this world that really, really care."

The workers at the center live paycheck to paycheck, explained Walker.

"Money is not that strong here in the inner city. But for you to come forward and do what you did for us, thank you so much."

Goff and Roche hoped the classrooms could be reopened Wednesday.

"It's just not right. For a couple hundred dollars of scrap metal, it's horrible," said Goff.

"I see her and how she is and it touches me inside, you know?" added Roche.

Walker said it was the third time the units were stolen or damaged in about nine months. Walker hoped surveillance video would help police catch the thieves.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
