Man critically injured in boat crash suffered spinal injury, liver damage, father says

Maria Del Valle, 29, killed in Saturday night crash in Biscayne Bay

MIAMI – The father of a man critically injured in Saturday night's boating accident near the Matheson Hammock Park and Marina said his son suffered a spinal injury and liver damage.

Dayron Baralt, 23, was on a 27-foot pleasure craft with Maria Del Valle, 29, and Maykel Perdomo, 33, when they were involved in a collision with a 68-foot motor yacht.

Baralt's father said his son was run over by the yacht and remains in the Intensive Care Unit, unable to communicate with his loved ones. He also told Local 10 News that Baralt is a club promoter on South Beach.

Perdomo remains in the hospital in stable condition and Del Valle, who is the mother of Perdomo's son, was killed in the collision.

The Coast Guard said the collision caused the smaller boat to capsize, sending all three of the occupants into Biscayne Bay.

Officials said CPR was conducted on Del Valle, who was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

FWC officers brought 49-year-old Steven Trypis, identified as the driver of the larger vessel, to the marina where a sobriety test and blood draw were performed.

The smaller vessel was towed into Matheson Hammock Marina early Sunday morning. The larger vessel will remain anchored at the location of the crash and treated as a crime scene.

The cause of the crash is still undetermined and under investigation.
