MIAMI – A robber shot a man walking into an abandoned house, then stole his gold chain.
The shooting happened at Northwest 29th Avenue and 52nd Street about 6:45 a.m. Monday.
When the victim walked up to the house, the robber shot him in the leg. Police said the victim was checking on the property.
"I talked to my neighbors. Everybody is shook up about it because nothing like that happens over here. It's sad," said a woman who lived next door. "They robbed a man. He was just going over there to check out a house. The house [is] empty. You know, people just don't have respect for people anymore."
"You wish that because they're trying to beautify and they're trying to clean it up, you wish they would put more investment into the safety around here," said Orlando Thomas. "We're here for right now but we have put in our though into eventually leaving before our children grow up and get a little older."
The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
