VA employee steals veterans' identities

Miami veterans possible victims

MIAMI – The Miami VA Healthcare System said some of its patients may be the victims of identity theft.

Like hundreds of other veterans, Mary Parker received a letter in October saying that she was a potential victim and that her social security number was stolen by a VA employee.

"I really feel violated, and just stunned," said Parker, who served in the first Gulf War.

"You'd think they would respect you and have your best interest at heart," she added.

VA officials could not tell Local 10 how it happened, who is suspected or how many veterans may be affected.

"I deal with so many medical problems, I don't want to deal with this, too," said Parker.

Any veterans with questions can call the VA at 305-575-7239.
