DAVIE, Fla. – It is a major milestone for Mormons in South Florida.
After three years of construction, the palatial Mormon temple in Davie will finally open.
This is only the second Mormon temple in the state.
Local 10 was invited to tour the 30,500-square-foot facility.
The décor is reminiscent of South Florida. A major focal point is a wall-to-wall, hand-painted mural inside the instruction room.
The grand celestial room boasts a shining crystal chandelier, gold detail and a luxurious, cloud-like carpet.
Weddings are performed in the sealing room.
There is also a room where baptisms take place. The font is suspended over 12 oxen, representing the 12 tribes of Israel.
"I was married in the Salt Lake City temple," Tina Fabiano told Local 10. "I have two sons and hopefully they'll be married in this temple."
Only the most devout Mormons are allowed to enter the temple, but for one month beginning Saturday, anyone can visit.
