DANIA BEACH, Fla. – An organization run by a Dania Beach city commissioner has now paid thousands in back taxes following a Local 10 investigation.
Less than a month ago Commissioner Bobbie Grace refused to answer questions from Local 10's Jeff Weinsier and even criticized Local 10 News for negative reporting.
But earlier this week, she addressed the Local 10 News report on the dais at a commission meeting.
"None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes," Grace told those in attendance.
Records show Grace is president of the Dania Economic Development Corporation. The organization provides low-income housing to families and the elderly.
Local 10 News discovered the organization owed thousands in back taxes on several properties it owns. Some of the outstanding debt was two years old.
"All of you that were attacking the Dania Economic Development Corporation for not paying their taxes -- it has been resolved and it has been paid," she said in the meeting Tuesday.
Grace claims paperwork was not done on time and admitted it was the organization's fault.
"Thank all of you. I'm even thanking Channel 10 for the news report they made, because out of that report came something positive. We came to a conclusion to resolve the issue," added Grace.
Grace is up for re-election Nov. 4.
"If you cannot keep track of the properties and the taxes you are responsible for personally, how can we expect you to be responsible to spend our money appropriately?" asked Dania Beach resident Pat Rafacz.
If Grace gets the most votes in November she would become the next mayor of Dania Beach.
