MIAMI – A 78-year-old woman found dead inside her Miami home is now the subject of a homicide investigation.
Miami police officers said they received a call at 4:10 p.m. Friday from the woman's son who said his mother was dead inside her home, located at 120 NW 34th Street.
According to detectives, the son said he hadn't spoken to his mother, Carmen Diaz, 78, in days. He said he became concerned and decided to pay her a visit.
The son said he discovered Diaz dead inside her home of 50 years. She was wrapped in a blanket and appeared to be decomposed for several days.
Police said the death appears to be somewhat suspicious, but at this time, detectives are calling the death "unclassified" until the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Office determines the cause of her death.
Police added that the house was ransacked.
