ISLAMORADA, Fla. – While attempting to lay eggs on an Islamorada beach, a loggerhead sea turtle became disoriented and ended up somewhere unexpected – a pool.
The turtle was discovered Monday at an oceanside residential pool, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

The FWC and the Turtle Hospital were able to get the turtle out of the water, examine it and, once it was deemed healthy, release it back into the Atlantic Ocean.
The female turtle is estimated to weigh about 250 pounds.
Sea turtle nesting season in the Florida Keys begins in April and continues through mid-October.
Officials remind those who live along the coast that artificial lighting can disrupt the ability of nesting females and hatchlings to find the sea.
People living along the coast should turn off lights at night, or should adjust them so they cannot be seen from the beach or water. Using red, orange or amber lights also helps prevent disorientation.
