Long lines reported at MIA Customs

Some travelers say they waited over 2 hours in line Saturday evening

MIAMI – Long lines were reported Saturday evening at Miami International Airport as some people in line said they waited for over two hours to get through Customs and Border Patrol.

An MIA official told Local 10 that Saturday nights are extremely busy and due to sequester cuts, the CBP are not allowed to maintain overtime staffing.

The official added that aviation staff also helped those in line, but only CBP can get travelers through.

Abigail Rice, a viewer who just came in from Honduras, said some American citizens waited roughly two hours. Rice said non-citizens probably waited for about four hours.

Rice said about 8,000 to 10,000 people were in line at customs.

Lines were reported to be moving quicker later Saturday night.
