A 25-year-old man accused in a fatal DUI crash turned himself into police on Tuesday.
Police charged Eliesbel Pita Morejon with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and DUI with property damage to another vehicle.
On Sept. 12, 2012, Pita Morejon ran a red light at Southwest 8th Street and 94th Avenue and hit another car, killing the driver, police say. He was going 72 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Pita Morejon was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to an arrest affidavit. Toxicology reports show he had a blood alcohol content of 0.21, above Florida's legal limit of 0.08.
