BSO homicide detectives said that a motel employee heard what sounded like a fight coming from room 221 just after 10 p.m. The fight sounded bad enough that he tried to enter the room with a master key, but someone had locked the door with the deadbolt, BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.
While the employee was trying to get in, Dominguez-Antencio opened the door and walked out of the room, Moschella said.
The employee called 911, but Dominguez-Antencio got away, Moschella said.
Deputies found Jessica Kowalik, 31, in the room with stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dominguez-Antencio fled to a nearby home, but the residents forced him out and shut the door, Moschella said. He was taken into custody a short time later.
