Man accused of killing girlfriend appears in court

Yoan Raul Dominguez charged in Genesis Fonseca's death

MIAMI – A 21-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend appeared in bond court Monday.

Police arrested Yoan Raul Dominguez Sunday.

Police say Dominguez shot and killed 17-year-old Genesis Fonseca at her mother's apartment in Hialeah on Saturday. The two had been dating for four months.

Police say Dominguez left the apartment after the shooting. According to an arrest report, on separate occasions, he told his mother and a close family friend that he killed his girlfriend.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting.

Police recovered a .38-caliber revolver from Dominguez when he was arrested in Miami.

Dominguez is charged with second-degree murder. He's being held on no bond.

The judge also ordered Dominguez to have no contact with Fonseca's family.

Fonseca's son is in foster care. He was taken soon after birth and will be offered for adoption.

"It's very tragic. I'm very sorry," said Judge Cindy Lederman. "I'm glad the baby wasn't involved in this."

When Dominguez was arrested, he was out on bail on a prior aggravated battery charge.
