Man arrested after stealing public works truck, police say

Suspect taken into custody in Oakland Park

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A man was arrested Tuesday after he stole a public works truck in Fort Lauderdale, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody in the 4100 block of Powerline Road after he was followed and then stopped a short time later by Broward County sheriff's deputies.

Police said the truck was reported stolen from 3000 E. Commercial Blvd.

Sky 10 was above the scene about 3:30 p.m. as the suspect was taken out of the back of a police cruiser and placed into an ambulance.

Police said the suspect was acting erratically and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center to be evaluated.

Workers have since recovered their truck.
