Less than 24 hours after a woman's body was found dead on the side of a road in Dania Beach, detectives say a 28-year-old man is in custody.
The Broward Sheriff's Office received a call before 6 a.m. Saturday that a partially clothed woman was found dead in the 3100 block of S.R. 84 in Dania Beach.
The woman, who deputies said had facial injuries and appeared to have been dead for a period of time, was taken to the medical examiner's office to be identified through fingerprints.
Deputies said 49-year-old Lacy Michelle Woolridge died from a broken neck.
Woolridge had been recently released from jail for fraud. BSO detectives contacted her parole officer who deputies said was able to provide information that led detectives to 28-year-old Raul Armando Serrano.
Serrano is a truck driver with Prime Incorporated, a trucking company based out of Springfield, Missouri, who claimed he had picked up four different women in Dade and Broward the 24 hours prior to his contact with investigators, deputies said.
Though he claimed not to know Woolridge, detectives said they found a bag with her clothes, purse and cell phone inside Serrano's semi-truck.
Serrano was taken to the BSO Main Jail booked on one count of first-degree murder.
