Man arrested in death of Jezebel Santiago

Police say Jose Prieto, 60, gave Santiago cocaine before she overdosed

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ North Miami Beach police have arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with the death of a woman who was found slumped over in the passenger seat of her car in February.

Police said Jezebel Santiago, 24, was found dead of a suspected drug overdose Feb. 10 near a residence at 1410 NE 157th St.

According to detectives, Jose Prieto was the last person seen with Santiago, and he had given her a large amount of cocaine during a night of partying.

He was arrested Friday and faces a second-degree murder charge.

Police said Prieto and Santiago were acquaintances and partied together at a local bar and perhaps at his North Miami home.

Police said Prieto drove the victim around, panicked when he realized she was overdosing and walked away from the car, leaving her to die.

Detectives said Prieto has a history of preying on drugged or intoxicated women.

In October 2014, Prieto was arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted an incapacitated woman whom he had met at a bar. He was later released on bond and is awaiting trial in the case.

Police said in both cases the women were in their early 20s and had been given narcotics by Prieto.

Detectives believe Santiago was also sexually assaulted by him.

Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Prieto is asked to call their local police department.
