Man breaks into ex-girlfriend's home in Miami-Dade County, police say

Steven Jambrina, 20, accused of pistol-whipping woman

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man surrendered to police Wednesday morning after officers said he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police said Steven Jambrina, 20, tried to break into the home on Northwest 96th Street off 36th Avenue by removing the air-conditioning unit.

Yara Sanchez, 35, and her 3-year-old daughter woke up to find Jambrina inside their home armed with a gun.

Sanchez told police Jambrina told her to give him $20 or he would shoot both her and her daughter. Police said she complied, and then Jambrina pistol-whipped her before leaving the home.

Police tracked Jambrina to his house off Northwest 95th Terrace and stood outside with their guns drawn. Police said Jambrina's mother eventually convinced him to surrender.

Jambrina is charged with home invasion.
