Man cited for selling illegal fireworks

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue: Owner of stand had illegal fireworks

KENDALE LAKES, Fla. ā€“ Miami-Dade Fire Rescue on Wednesday cited the owner of a fireworks stand in Kendale Lakes who investigators said was selling illegal fireworks.

Firefighters said they found illegal fireworks inside a container next to the stand, located just west of Southwest 127th Avenue and Kendall Drive.

"He's saying he doesn't know how they got there," said Alex Cid with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "Most of these guys know because, in the permit, when they sign off on a permit, they know what they're supposed to sell."

Fire Rescue checked stands throughout the county Wednesday, a day before the Fourth of July.

"This guy's been warned. We confiscated what he has," said Cid. "He's been issued a couple violations. Next time he gets caught, we shut him down, we revoke his permit, we take everything he has -- even what's legal -- and, in the future, he might not be able to get a permit in Miami-Dade County to sell fireworks."

The Miami-Dade Police Department's bomb squad unit will detonate the illegal fireworks that were seized.
