DORAL, Fla. – A man questioned in the murder of a Homestead teenager said any involvement police thought he had was a misunderstanding.
Miguel Infante was released from police custody Wednesday morning after he was questioned about the murder of Tiffany Cabreja. The 18-year-old's body was found at a construction site in the 28200 block of Southwest 144th Avenue on Saturday morning.
Witnesses had told police they saw what appeared to be a body fall out of a commercial truck. They said the driver stopped, placed the body in his car, and drove away. On Tuesday, investigators recovered the truck they believe witnesses saw.
Infante insisted no body fell out of his truck, saying his girlfriend fell out when she opened the door.
"I picked up my girlfriend's body because she fell off the truck. That was it," he said. "I'm innocent. We're both innocent. I don't know what the hell is doing on, and I hope they catch this killer."
Infante said he gave DNA and took a lie detector test, adding that he and his girlfriend, Raquel Delgado, were in the midst of an argument when she fell out.
"People looking at us like we're killers now," he said.
Delgado said she fell out when she opened the door.
"There was a body that fell out of the truck, which is me," she said. "I don't understand how they said they put that together with him throwing a body out in a construction site."
Infante said his friend knew Cabreja, but didn't elaborate about their relationship or who he was, only saying, "I think they're enemies."
Cabreja's father didn't comment on Tuesday's findings.
