Man drives to hospital after someone opens fire at car on I-95

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A driver made a detour to a North Miami Beach hospital after someone opened fire at his car Tuesday on Interstate 95, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Sky 10 was above the bullet-riddled white Mercedes-Benz parked outside Jackson North Medical Center.

FHP spokesman Joe Sanchez said the man was driving north on I-95 near Northwest 135th Street at about 1:30 p.m. when someone in a black car shot at his car five times.

A passenger, who is believed to be the driver's son, jumped out of the car during the shooting and suffered road rash, Sanchez said.

The driver suffered an injury to his bicep from "a projectile" and drove himself to the hospital. He was transferred to Aventura Hospital and released several hours later.

"He's very lucky to be alive," Sanchez said.

Sanchez said the shooting happened while there were plenty of vehicles on I-95, "so someone had to see all this action."

A motive for the shooting is unknown.
