Man found in Miami alleyway dies on way to hospital

Miami police investigate incident near Northwest Third Avenue

MIAMI – Police are investigating after a man found injured in a Miami alleyway Friday died on the way to a hospital.

It happened in the 3400 block of Northwest Third Avenue in Miami.

Police were called to reports of a man being struck by a vehicle that was seen chasing him.

When police arrived, they found the man, identified as Jose Pena, 24, in the alleyway. Police said he died on the way to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Police said homicide and traffic homicide detectives are investigating to determine what happened.

"We don't know if this was a homicide or what exactly went down. But we do have a dead male at this point," Officer Rene Pimentel said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
