DAVIE, Fla. – A man underwent surgery at Memorial Regional Hospital after he was shot early Thursday morning.
The shooting happened in the 4200 block of Southwest 57th Avenue. Neighbors called 911 after seeing 36-year-old Robert Demps lying in the roadway.

"Got woke up out of the blue. They told me my cousin got shot," said Jermaine Rholhac.
Rholhac said he never heard gunshots but found his cousin struggling to stand up.
"He was already over here, sitting up, getting off the ground and then he walked over there where I was and told me call 911 and he said I got shot," he said.
Police questioned a woman who was with Demps at the time of the shooting. It's unclear what she said led up to the shooting.
"We need to find out who did it and why," said Rita Lewis, a cousin of the victim.
Demps was expected to survive.
