Man killed by glass tabletop during storm in Miami Beach

Police: Table lifted from balcony of apartment complex, struck man fixing fence

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man is dead after being struck by a glass tabletop that was lifted during a storm in Miami Beach, police said.

It happened while the man was working on a fence that was damaged by winds Friday on the northern side of the Flamingo South Beach Towers on North Bay Road near the parking garage.

Police said the tabletop was lifted from the ninth-floor balcony of the apartment building about 7:45 p.m. High winds moved through the South Florida area Friday night.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue took the man to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m., police said.
