Man killed in Fort Lauderdale shooting

Victim dies at hospital

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was killed early Tuesday morning in a shooting in Fort Lauderdale.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers were called to reports of gunshots in the 600 block of Northeast Fifth Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man, identified as Shamoy Eddy, 24, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Neighbor Greg Hankerson told Local 10 News that he heard about a half-dozen gunshots and came running over to the apartment where his friend lives.

"I heard somebody screaming (and the) next thing I know, I look in there, he's laying down on the floor, blood everywhere," Hankerson said.

Hankerson said the gunman chased the victim down before shooting him.

"I've never had a problem with him," Cheryl Everett, who lives nearby, said. "When he sees me it's, 'Hi, mom.' He always called me mom. If he saw me getting groceries out of the car, he'd pull his bike over and help me take the groceries out. He was a good boy."

Everett said she also heard the gunshots and just lost her own son to gun violence last year.

"Raise your children to respect and honor, and that way the children won't be so easy to be led astray," she said.

No description has been given about the gunman.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
