Man killed in gold chain robbery

Miami police: 3 robbers steal victim's gold chain, shoot him

MIAMI – The victim of a gold chain robbery died one day after he was shot.

Miami police didn't immediately release the 63-year-old victim's name Monday. He was shot at Northwest 17th Avenue and 16th Street on Sunday evening.

Three robbers approached the victim as he stood by his pickup truck and demanded his gold chain, police said. Before running away, one of the robbers shot the victim in the stomach.

The victim was doing his laundry. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.

"When they see somebody with a flashy watch or chain, they're looking for the opportunity when this person's not looking, not paying attention," said Miami Police Sgt. Freddie Cruz.

Homicide detectives have surveillance video that shows a vehicle leaving the area. A description of the robbers wasn't immediately released.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
