Man killed while attempting to steal dirt bike, police say

Jacolby Foster, 20, accused of orchestrating armed robbery

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was shot and killed last month while trying to steal a dirt bike that another man was selling, Miami-Dade police said.

Jacolby Foster, 20, was arrested on one count of second-degree felony murder. The suspect who was killed was identified by police as Natavius Mcnear.

Mcnear's cousin, Tremaine Haggins, 21, also faces a charge of second-degree murder.

According to an arrest report, Foster, Mcnear and Haggins attempted to rob a man who traveled from Fort Lauderdale to Florida City to sell a dirt bike.

Police said Foster claimed he offered the victim $3,000 for the bike and drove Mcnear and Haggins to an apartment complex so they could meet with the victim and rob him.

Detectives said Foster told Haggins to ask the victim to test ride the bike, with the intention of riding off with it without paying or returning. Detectives said Mcnear, who was armed, was instructed to rob the victim using his firearm if the victim didn't allow his cousin to test ride the bike.

According to the report, another person who was with the victim fatally shot Mcnear during the robbery.

Detectives said Haggins tried to steal the dirt bike, but was unsuccessful and fled on foot.

Both the victim and the gunman's wallets were found in Mcnear's front pocket, police said.

Foster was arrested and remains in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
