Man on Jet Ski rescued by Coast Guard 25 miles east of Miami

Man hoisted into helicopter by Coast Guard crew

MIAMI – A man riding a Jet Ski Friday was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard 25 miles east of Miami, authorities said.

Coast Guard officials said they received a personal locating beacon (PLB) notification just before 1 p.m. and sent a helicopter crew to find the man.

The helicopter crew spotted the Jet Skier at 1:23 p.m. and hoisted him up and took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be checked out.

Authorities said the man was not injured.

"Because this mariner had a PLB and activated it, our rescue crews were able to quickly and accurately locate and rescue him," said Capt. Todd Coggeshall, Seventh Coast Guard District chief of incident management. "We always encourage mariners to have either properly registered emergency position indicating radio beacons or personal locating beacons for situations much like this, because it could be mean finding a mariner in distress sooner than later."
