Man pulled from SUV that crashed into canal in Deerfield Beach

Driver taken to hospital in critical condition

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A man was pulled from an SUV that crashed into a canal Wednesday in Deerfield Beach, Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.

The SUV crashed into the canal about 12:30 p.m. along Southwest 10th Street.

BSO firefighters and deputies broke the windows of the vehicle and pulled the driver out of the water.

"We quickly had five units on scene," Jachles said. "We had two engines, an aerial platform, a rescue and a battalion chief, and there were already BSO deputies on scene as well."

The driver was taken to Broward Health North in critical condition.

"The autopulse was administered to this victim to continue that chest compression and oxygenation to the brain en route to the hospital," Jachles said.

Jachles said the man did not have a pulse when he arrived to the hospital.

The SUV was carrying a trailer that read "Mobile Auto Detailing."

It was not immediately known what led to the crash.
