Man robs, beats woman inside Pompano Beach apartment, deputies say

Surveillance cameras catch thief using ATM minutes after robbery

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who duct-taped and beat a 53-year-old woman inside her home before robbing her.

The assault and robbery occurred about 12:45 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex at 2028 NE 24 Ave in Pompano Beach.

According to deputies, Kathryn Devlin had just arrived home from grocery shopping, and was at the sink when the man burst into her home.

"I went to wash my hands in the sick and the next thing I know I have a gun pointed at my head, my eyes wrapped, him grabbing me and he said, 'I'll blow your (expletive) head off if you don't follow me,'" said Devlin at a news conference Wednesday.

Deputies said the man grabbed her, covered her mouth and nose with a cloth and hit her in the forehead with a handgun.

Devlin told deputies the man then forced her into her bedroom, where he bound her ankles and arms with duct tape, and rummaged through her closet and purse.

Devlin said the man apologized to her at one point, saying he would leave her with her cellphone.

Surveillance cameras captured the man taking out money with Devlin's debit card at an ATM at 400 N. Federal Hwy within minutes of the attack.

He is described as a white man in his mid-40s with black hair, about 160 pounds and who is 5 foot 9 inches.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A $3,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest.
