Man sentenced in providing false information to FBI

Report: Soloman Zaid Alkadhi, 24, planned to join al-Shabaab

MIAMI – A man was sentenced Wednesday to 60 months in prison for providing a false statement to the FBI in regards to a matter involving international terrorism.

According to a Department of Justice report, Soloman Zaid Alkadhi, 24, denied to FBI agents in October 2009 that he planned to travel to Somalia to join al-Shabaab, a foreign terrorist group.

Court documents state that Alkadhi intended to travel to Somalia to join the group and provide assistance to them. He later acknowledged that after conducting online research into al-Shabaab, he traveled from Florida to Kenya, then crossed the Kenyan-Somalian border to do so.

Alkadhi pleaded guilty on April 24, 2014, and was charged with providing a false statement to special agents of the FBI in a matter regarding international terrorism.

Alkadhi also received three years of supervised release upon completion of his prison sentence.
