Man shocked while working on home in Little Haiti

Neighbors say victim was in town helping friend prepare home to rent

MIAMI – A man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after he was shocked while working on a home in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue officials said the incident happened about 2 p.m. outside a home in the area of Northeast 60th Street and North Miami Avenue.

Neighbors told Local 10 News that the 52-year-old man was visiting Miami to help a friend prepare the home to be rented. They said he was working on the electrical box when he was shocked.

Miami Fire Rescue officials said it appeared that the victim was not following proper procedures when he was shocked.

"You can see that there are a lot of wires that are exposed from the actual meter box where the electrical light comes in from the pole, and according to FPL that's not the proper procedure," Capt. Ignatius Carroll said. "You're supposed to notify FPL about what you want to do. You also should be a licensed contractor."

Authorities said someone performed CPR on the victim while a 911 dispatcher was giving them instructions until paramedics arrived.

The victim's condition has not been released.
