Man shot, carjacked after picking up girlfriend at Sunset Place

Woman also shot in knee

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 19-year-old man is thankful to be alive after his car was stolen Halloween night and he and his girlfriend were shot.

"I wasn't expecting this to happen at all. It was unexpected," he said.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, said he was picking up his girlfriend from work at Sunset Place when five people asked him for a ride.

He agreed, and the group got into his car. He headed down U.S. Highway 1 and was told to turn on Rosaro Avenue.

"I put the car in park, and he immediately put a gun to my head," he said.

The victim said he was shot twice and his girlfriend was shot once in the knee.

The group fled in his car, leaving them both stranded and injured. The victim managed to call 911 and he and his girlfriend were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The victim still needs surgery on his elbow where the bullet remains lodged.

He said he will now think twice before trusting anyone again.

"I wouldn't say anything to them," he said. "(They'll) get what they deserve."
