LAUDERHILL, Fla. - Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday there was gunfire in a Lauderhill apartment filled with people. Police say one man was hit several times and transported to the hospital.
According to Captain Constance Stanley with the Lauderhill Police Department, "When the officers arrived they did find the door to the apartment ajar. Once inside they did observe a male who was shot multiple times. He was transported to Broward General hospital where he was pronounced deceased."
The victim was found by police at 2941 Northwest 56th Avenue, just inside apartment #D-1. After the shooting police set up a mobile command unit at the Inverrary Village apartments to process the crime scene.
Besides the man who died, police say there were two women and two young children inside the home during the home invasion and shooting. It's unclear if the women or children witnessed what happened. Early Thursday morning, they were all being interviewed by detectives.
Captain Stanley says the victim did live in the apartment. Early in the investigation it was unclear if anything was stolen.
Lauderhill police say it's possible several suspects fled the scene. Thursday morning detectives were working to establish a full description.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Lauderhill Police Department.
