MIAMI -

Family members identified a man found shot to death in a vacant lot in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Officers called to a shooting at Northwest 15th avenue and 77th Terrace about 4 a.m. found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead when they arrived.

Family members identified the victim as 26-year-old Jamal Jones.

"Just the life of the party. That's Jamal," said his cousin, Edwina Smith.

Smith said Jones asked her to pick up cash from him 10 minutes before his death. He had been robbed last week.

"We came and we got the money from him," she said. "I guess he was supposedly coming home but unfortunately he never made it."

Investigators believe the gunman may have robbed Jones first.

Neighbors said the area is known for prostitution. Condom wrappers littered the lot.

"You see a lot of transgender people in this area and I can only assume what they're doing," said Melvin Hart.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
